My daughter had no fear of the water, and at the age of 18 months loved to just walk into the pool. Since she had no water skills, I would have to go in after her. I tried to find someone to teach her to swim, because I was only taught to teach from ages three and up. I could not find anyone to teach her so I spent the summer experimenting with my friend’s children and came up with this five-day water survival program. The Turn, Kick, Reach Swimming program has been successfully teaching children for over thirty- seven years.
Marlene has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Florida Atlantic University, and worked on her masters degree in administration at Nova Southeastern University. She lives in Florida and has two children and six grandchildren who have all learned The Turn, Kick, Reach Swimming Program!
Mindy has worked with Turn, Kick, Reach for 26 years. She has training in business development and is an entrepreneur extraordinaire.
I became involved with the Turn, Kick, Reach technique after my child who at the time was 17 months old was found at the bottom of a pool. Fortunately, I knew CPR, and was able to revive her. Marlene had been after me for months to sign my daughter up for lessons, and I called her immediately telling her what happened. My daughter was in lessons practically, the next day. After experiencing what the TKR Program could do for my daughter’s safety and my peace of mind, I knew it was my mission to save lives by working with Marlene bringing the Turn, Kick, Reach program to the world. I now have two grandchildren who both learned the Turn, Kick, Reach method before they were a year old. They are both very confident swimmers who love being in the water. The peace of mind I have is priceless.
Baseball’s Hall of Famer, Andre Dawson, “The Hawk”, is the national spokesperson and a graduate of the Baby Otter Andre Dawson Aquatics Center. Andre found Baby Otter attending a make a wish fundraising event. He mentioned as a child he experienced a trauma so consequently he was not comfortable swimming. Andre decided it was time to conquer his fear by taking our adult swim classes.
During Andre’s lessons he was watching all of the babies, toddlers, and our special needs children learning to swim. He was amazed seeing the transformation during the five day program.
Andre is not a paid spokesperson and spends much of his time volunteering at events and donating time to our school. His passion as it is ours is to make sure that every child is privy to all of our programs. Andre enjoys making appearances at the pool to play and swim with the kids.
“Throughout my career, I have tried to use my position to help as many people as possible. Baby Otter has given me a greater opportunity to help people, children in particular, more than any other charitable effort of which I have been involved.”
